Since 2012, Island Health's Research department has supported research, innovation, and quality improvement to enhance care and services and promote wellness across the region. We provide a range of services and supports to our researchers and collaborators.
- Current Initiatives
-
We conduct and support a wide range of studies on areas that include indigenous health, mental health and substance use, seniors health, cognitive health, primary care networks, public health and health promotion, virtual and technology-enabled care, and care team health and wellness.
- Nearly 400 studies are currently approved under Island Health’s two research ethics boards, and Island Health conducted 34 active clinical trials in 2021-2022.
- Read our Research in Review to learn about current initiatives and their impact on patient care.
- Our Vision and Commitments
-
Our vision is to create a robust, self-sustaining health research community on Vancouver Island, playing an essential role in the delivery of health services, and improving health status and health care for the communities we serve.
To attain our vision, we seek to build:
- A community that collaborates rather than competes with our partners to bring more opportunities to Vancouver Island.
- A learning health system that supports continuous innovation and improvement by generating and applying evidence.
- A just, equitable, diverse, and inclusive culture that engages all perspectives and experiences to counter systemic inequities and harms. Learn more.
